Traditional Homemade Club Sandwich Recipe
The club sandwich is a delicious deli staple that’s easy to make at home. I’m going to share with you my straightforward club sandwich recipe.
Making this traditional club sandwich recipe is also really easy. You can pass this off as dinner in the summer.
A club sandwich: what is it?
A club sandwich, sometimes known as a clubhouse sandwich, is a well-liked sandwich composed of lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, toasted bread, cooked turkey, ham, or fried bacon slices. The unique feature of the club sandwich is that it consists of three pieces of bread, with one slice serving as a divider in the middle. It is one of the most popular sandwiches in existence. This traditional American dish is frequently offered in delis, country clubs, and other dining establishments, frequently paired with potato salad or chips.
The recipe for a club sandwich
Starting with the tastiest ingredients you can find is the first step. Here, I am a total Trader Joe’s girl. I got the majority of my ingredients from there.
- Ingredients needed to make this classic club sandwich recipe are as follows:
- slices of bread of your choosing, such as white, whole grain, etc.
- Mayonnaise (Trader Joe’s, Duke’s, or Hellmann’s are my favorites)
- crisp lettuce
- Slices of tomato
- To taste, add salt and black pepper to the tomatoes.
- deli ham slices
- sliced deli turkey
- grilled bacon
- A piece of Colby Jack cheese (or any other cheese; Swiss and cheddar also work well)
Pro tip: I also use the pre-cooked bacon from Trader Joe’s (not seen in the photo). To make it crispier, I put it in the toaster oven for a minute. Almost all supermarkets carry a variant of this shortcut. Air-fried bacon is another favorite. Some individuals garnish their club with extras like thinly sliced red onion. To make it uniquely yours, feel free to add your preferred toppings. For an easy dish like this one, I’m sticking with the classic club sandwich.
Putting together a Club Sandwich
This is the recipe for the ultimate club sandwich! Three bread slices are required. After toasting the bread, I give it a few minutes to cool. Why? Your lettuce will wilt if you assemble your sandwich on top of steaming hot toast.
Technically speaking, toasting qualifies as cooking. However! This is still tasty even if I don’t toast it!
Alright, then apply mayonnaise over the toast that has cooled and begin building your club sandwich. Start with the lettuce and tomatoes after the mayo, and don’t forget to season and pepper them.
Sandwich a piece of bread, mayo side down, on top. Then start piling the meat and cheese on the other side with some mayo.
Lay the final slice of bread on top, mayo side down. and then, using toothpicks to keep everything in place, cut into triangles with a well-sharpened knife.
Serving hints of Club Sandwich
I used regular toothpicks since I didn’t have any fancy ones. Feel free to use the fancy ones if you’d like!
Next! To enhance the visual appeal of your club sandwich, simply flip everything over so that the lovely layers are visible.
Blessed be! It’s time to fill up! I hope you all like this easy recipe. If you attempt it, please let me know in the comments, as well as whether you are interested in seeing more simple recipes like this one.
Appetizers for a club sandwich
Serve this dish with baked sweet potato fries, air fryer French fries, Greek potato salad, or basic potato salad for an added pop of flavor. Or, if you’re in the mood for something easy and uncooked, a side dish of chilled watermelon chunks. Naturally, there’s always the classic pickle spear.
